Socializing and maintaining relationships with other people is a huge factor in being mentally, socially, and emotionally healthy. However, we understand that not everyone is born with the skills and interests to engage properly with people. That is why our program ensures that our beneficiaries learn the benefits and the ways to stay socially active.
THE MEDIATION CENTER OF THE COASTAL EMPIRE
4 the Jewel N U officially partnered with The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire in March 2022. Under the professional guidance of Lee Robbins, Director of Operations, Karen Alston, provides personal and professional insight to registered participants of the SDV Mediation Training, on the importance of recognizing and how to properly acknowledge the different signs displayed by victims of violence from the initial interview, before and during the actual mediation date and beyond. Education plus recognition is the key to assist victims with their prevention process, in hopes of finally living a life-free from violence. Karen became a National Domestic Violence Advocate, in December 2021.
ZEPPONE CARING HANDS HOME CARE
4 the Jewel N U officially partnered with Zeppone Caring Hands Home Care in June 2022 to provide specialized in-service training tailoring to the specific need of their staff and clientele as it relates to domestic violence and elderly abuse awareness. Partnerships such as with Zeppone Caring Hands are designed to increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of staff to deliver quality care to our elderly and adults with disabilities.
UNION MISSION | PARKER’S HOUSE
4 the Jewel N U announces its official partnership with Union Mission Parker’s House in October 2022. Motivational Speaker and Founder, Karen Denise Alston, along with the Parker’s House ladies filled the room with laughter, warm smiles, gentle tears, real talk, life lessons and heart-felt appreciations as we presented the inaugural workshop entitled: BELIEVING IN ME JUST 4 ME. The Women EmpowHERment Workshops are intentionally presented in a non-judgmental environment designed just for them. Parker’s House: A Home for Women in Savannah and coastal Georgia’s only facility solely dedicated to providing emergency housing and comprehensive services for unaccompanied women experiencing homelessness.
Savannah-Chatham County has the second-highest rate of homelessness in Georgia. According to the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless 2019 HUD PIT Survey, on any given night, more than 180 women in Chatham County are experiencing homelessness.
